Alabama Considers Using Inmates as Farm Workers

farm laborUSA Today reports (http://ow.ly/6W9GY) that Alabama’s tough new immigration laws have forced many Hispanic farm workers, both legal and illegal, to leave the state. The immediate result was that some crops were left rotting in the fields. Other crops, ready for harvest, has forced the Agriculture Commissioner to consider potential solutions to the labor shortage, such as using inmates to work the fields.
