On Monday, June 27, the SW Florida Small Farmers Network will visit Treehouse Nursery on Pine Island. The nursery grows rare tropical fruit trees and flowering plants for wholesale and retail. It is a great location to see the mature trees and even taste some exotic fruits.
Anyone is welcome to come along on the visit which includes a tour by grove manager Steve Cucura. I attended Steve’s presentation at the Florida Small Farms Conference in Kissimmee last year and was impressed by his wealth of knowledge on production and varieties of fruits for Florida.
There is no cost but participants are asked to bring a dish for the pot luck lunch, their own utensils and plates, and a folding chair. Other activities include a seed swap, growers meeting, and Extension agent presentations. Registration begins at 9:30 am and the tour runs 10:00-11:30 with the other activities to follow. If you are interested in attending, please RSVP to Robert Kluson at Sarasota County Extension, 941-232-3090 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
